BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy on Wednesday (September 30, 2026) said that the Tamil Nadu government must transfer the probe into the sexual assault case involving ‘Gem Granites’ R. Veeramani , to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a social media post, he said one of the officers in the all-woman Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the sexual assault case involving Veeramani — V.V. Geethanjali, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai — has requested to recuse herself from the team. The officer requested to be exempted from the panel, citing her prior involvement in the initial investigation of this case — conducted under the supervision of the then Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun — during her tenure with the Central Crime Branch.
