GCC’s property tax drive nets ₹133 crore, defaulters’ names to be published soon
The Greater Chennai Corporation has collected ₹133 crore in property taxes during a special July drive, significantly outpacing previous collection rates. To address the remaining ₹900 crore in outstanding dues, the civic body plans to publicly list major defaulters and has implemented digital payment tools to streamline the process.

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) collected over ₹133 crore during the special drive from July 3, 2026 so far this half year. This is more than twice the amount (₹52 crore) collected during the corresponding period last month, according to an official in the civic body’s Revenue Department.
The GCC is also preparing to publish the names of major property tax defaulters on its website. Orders have been issued for the exercise, and the list will be uploaded after the process is completed.
Over ₹900 crore is yet to be collected from nearly seven lakh property owners. The GCC has been sending WhatsApp reminders with QR codes to make payments easier, pamphlets and newspaper advertisements are also being issued to encourage taxpayers to clear their dues before penalties are levied, he said.
