GCC allocates ₹60.60 cr. as first instalment of Ward Development Fund
The Greater Chennai Corporation has allocated ₹60.60 crore as the first installment of the 2026-27 Ward Development Fund. Each councillor will receive ₹30 lakh to address local infrastructure needs like drainage and road maintenance.

Ahead of the Greater Chennai Corporation’s (GCC) council meeting this month, the civic body has allocated ₹60.60 crore as the first instalment of the 2026-27 Ward Development Fund.
Each of the 200 councillors and two special councillors will receive ₹30 lakh. According to GCC, the funds can be used for road and drainage works, rainwater harvesting, and other monsoon preparedness measures. The works must be carried out in accordance with the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act, 1998 and Rules, 2000.
Notably, during the previous council meeting on August 28, councillors, clad in black, expressed dissatisfaction over the non-disbursal of the “councillor’s fund”.
