GBA to launch fire audits at sensitive areas in the city, violators to face criminal cases

The Bengaluru City Corporations, with the fire department, will launch a fire safety audit in sensitive areas across the city and initiate criminal proceedings against owners of buildings that do not comply with mandatory fire safety norms.
M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), on Friday directed officials to take action against owners of buildings in vulnerable localities that fail to install fire safety systems.
He also directed officials to install fire hydrants along newly white-topped roads in vulnerable areas to ensure adequate water supply during fire emergencies. The hydrants must be inspected every month, properly maintained, and any defects rectified immediately, he said.
