Gaza war could have ended a year earlier, says ex Israeli hostage negotiator
Former Israeli hostage negotiator Nitzan Alon claims the Gaza war could have ended a year earlier with a hostage deal. He argues that the pursuit of 'total victory' delayed the release of captives and increased the human cost of the conflict.

This perspective provides critical insight into the internal Israeli debate regarding military strategy versus diplomatic negotiation in the Gaza conflict.
Former Israeli hostage negotiator Major General (retd) Nitzan Alon has said Israel could have ended the Gaza war about a year earlier and secured the release of all its remaining hostages without significantly compromising its other strategic objectives.According to Al Jazeera, Alon made the remarks during a Washington Institute for Near East Policy webcast on October 2, arguing that Israel could have reached the position it ultimately achieved “much earlier, maybe a year earlier or so”.
