Gas Supply may pursue remedies if contract breached following Indonesia’s export cuts: Tan See Leng
Singapore's Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry, Tan See Leng, stated that Indonesia's recent natural gas export cuts will not significantly impact electricity prices. The government maintains that Singapore has sufficient supply and is prepared to import more LNG if necessary.
Why it matters
Energy security is a vital concern for nations like Singapore that rely heavily on imports, and this highlights the geopolitical sensitivity of regional energy trade.
Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng gave the reassurance that Singapore has sufficient gas supply to meet its demand.
Listen SINGAPORE – Indonesia’s move to cut gas exports to Singapore is unlikely to affect electricity prices significantly in the short term, as the reduction makes up less than 2% of the country’s needs, said Minister for Energy, Trade and Industry (Energy and Industry) Tan See Leng.
Singapore should instead be looking at fluctuations in global prices, he told reporters in an interview on Oct 25 after the PAP’s biennial conference.
This is because the unit price of gas is usually pegged to the movement of some of the key global indexes, he noted.
