With continuing police action against narcotics, availability of ganja has reportedly fallen across Coimbatore, triggering a corresponding increase in its price in the illegal market, according to police sources.
A zipper packet of ganja of 8-10 grams, which used to be sold for about ₹500, was now being sold for over ₹1,000. Though a highly potent medical-grade cannabis called ‘OG Kush’ had been seized from Coimbatore a few times in the past, there were very few takers for the variety due to its premium price, said police sources involved in anti-narcotic operations.
Commissioner of Police N. Kannan said the increase in the price of ganja in the illegal market was a direct impact of the crackdown on the drug by the police. “It indicates that the inflow and circulation of the drug have reduced significantly,” he said.
