Gang kills elderly couple in Salem to rob one sovereign gold jewellery

An elderly couple was beaten to death and robbed of one sovereign of jewellery in Salem district on Monday (July 20, 2026) night.
Police said the victims Jayaraman (85) and his wife Amaravathi (70) stayed in a hut in Kundukkal near Kadayampatti. The couple’s two sons and two daughters, who were living separately in the locality, sent food to them regularly.
On Monday night, while the couple was in their hut, an unidentified gang entered and attacked them with wooden logs and killed them. The gang robbed gold earrings and a nose ring totally weighing one sovereign from Amaravathi and fled. Later around 9 p.m., while their family members came to provide food, they found the duo dead in a pool of blood and alerted the Deevattipatti police.
