Fun Science Gallery draws visitors to Anna Science Centre-Planetarium
The Anna Science Centre-Planetarium in Tiruchi has seen a significant rise in visitors following the launch of its Fun Science Gallery. Despite its popularity, the facility faces ongoing infrastructure challenges, specifically water stagnation on its premises during the monsoon season.
Why it matters
It highlights the importance of public science education infrastructure and the operational challenges faced by aging public institutions in India.
Anna Science Centre-Planetarium Tiruchi has received over 6,000 visitors in August, reflecting an increase in footfall in the past year, after the launch of the Fun Science Gallery and other attractions.
According to official statistics, 6,500 persons (mostly groups of school and college students) visited the science centre in August this year, up from 5,000 in August 2025.
The Fun Science Gallery, inaugurated last September, has proven to be popular with visitors for its experiential exhibits showcasing scientific concepts in a simplified and activity-based format. Its four-dimensional projection theatre is a hit with viewers.
The Incubation Hub, launched in 2021, has seen many school students from Classes VI to XII enrolling to conduct research on their innovative ideas.
