Fuel hub to bridge Uganda to first oil

President Museveni yesterday flagged off the construction of a 320-million-litre Kampala Storage Terminal (KST), which officials said will increase the country’s fuel storage capacity to 360 million litres and help cushion it against fuel shortages.

The Shs1.2 trillion ($310 million) facility will sit on 300 acres of land at Namwabula in Mpigi District and will supplement the existing Jinja Storage Terminal, which currently has a 30-million-litre capacity, guaranteeing fuel availability even in times of crisis.

Mr Museveni said the project marks a significant milestone as Uganda moves towards first oil, which Finance Minister Henry Musasizi told reporters at Parliament last week would be realised before the end of this financial year (June 30, 2027).
