From Melodi to Melody: A Bengaluru restaurant turns a viral moment into dessert

A Bengaluru-based chef has created a dessert menu inspired by the viral 'Melodi' meme, which features Indian PM Narendra Modi and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni. The menu uses Parle’s Melody toffee to capitalize on the internet trend.
Why it matters
It highlights how viral political memes can influence consumer culture and local business marketing strategies.
Not since the early ‘90s, has Parle’s Melody toffee has been in the public discourse like this. Two weeks ago, Indian prime minister Modi gifted a bag of Melody toffees to Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni and the moment went viral on the internet . The duo has been called ‘Melodi’, a portmanteau of their names (à la Brangelina), for some time now and the gift was the culmination of the meme. Bengaluru-based chef Abhijit Saha has taken inspiration from this to create a special dessert menu using the nostalgic toffee. “Melody is a caramel and chocolate sweet treat. I saw that moment and thought let us do something with it.”
The article reports on a cultural trend without taking a political stance.
