Freshwater ponds get a new lease of life under PMKSY in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh government is modernizing 105 village ponds under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) to improve groundwater levels and community infrastructure. The project includes beautification efforts such as walking tracks, parks, and open-air gyms alongside irrigation improvements.

The modernisation of 105 village ponds across the State at a cost of ₹50 crore as per the directions of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment & Forests K. Pawan Kalyan under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) not only helped in increasing the groundwater levels but also provided a serene atmosphere around them as walking tracks were laid, open-air gymasiums set up and children’s parks developed as part of a comprehensive plan of action to make the most of these water bodies.
An official release said the PMKSY gave a new momentum to the much-needed rejuvenation of freshwater ponds and lakes in the State in tune with the government’s commitment to shape them into efficient irrigation water resources and systems that protect ecological balance.
