Fresh petition submitted to CM seeking permission for businesses in Mysuru to operate till 1 a.m.

The Mysuru Hotel Owners’ Association has petitioned the Chief Minister of Karnataka to extend business operating hours until 1 a.m. They argue that this change would boost tourism, support hospital visitors, and increase tax revenue for the state.
Why it matters
This reflects a broader urban policy debate in India regarding the 'night-time economy' and the balance between commercial growth and public regulation.
A fresh petition seeking permission for extending business hours for commercial establishments and trade in Mysuru city till 1 a.m. has been submitted to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
The petition, submitted by Mysuru Hotel Owners’ Association president C. Narayanagowda to Mr. Shivakumar during the latter’s visit to Mysuru on Sunday, has sought permission for extending business hours of commercial establishments and trade in Mysuru City Corporation limits till 1 a.m.
The representation recalls an announcement in the Budget speech of 2024–25 for extension of permitted hours for commercial business and trade till 1 a.m. in 20 City Corporations across Karnataka, including Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, with a view to promoting commercial activity.
Claiming that the order is already in force in Bengaluru, Mr. Narayanagowda said the Association had submitted two representations to the State government requesting for extending the same facility to Mysuru as well.
