Tuesday night’s function at Doltone House in Pyrmont saw Alex Twal win the Kelly-Barnes Medal, while Api Koroisau won the players’ player award.

But the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Luai, the club captain, was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, he was in Samoa promoting the Rugby League World Cup while the Tigers awards night was happening.

Luai posted photos of his trip to the Pacific island to Instagram as Tigers players were winning awards.
