Residents in rural areas of Karur district are protesting against frequent, unscheduled power outages occurring late at night. Officials from the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation have attributed the disruptions to temporary load shedding and promised a resolution.

According to sources, consumers experienced frequent disruptions in power supply in areas such as Kulithalai, Krishnarayapuram, Ayyarmalai, Thogamalai, Kadavur, Palaviduthi, Lalapettai, Puliyur, Tharagampatti and Mylampatti. They alleged that power supply was being disrupted mainly between 10 p.m. and 12.30 a.m.
The repeated interruptions had caused severe inconvenience to people, who had been facing high heat and a prolonged summer-like situation. There were several instances of affected people thronging electricity offices.
