French media react to Bradley Barcola hattrick for Liverpool v LASK
French footballer Bradley Barcola scored his first professional hattrick during Liverpool's 6-3 Champions League victory over LASK. French media outlets praised the performance as a turning point for the player following a difficult start to his career at Anfield.
Why it matters
High-value player performance is a critical metric for top-tier football clubs and their financial investments.
Bradley Barcola achieved a notable feat for the first time in his career when helping Liverpool put six goals past LASK in the Champions League, and the French media were suitably impressed.
Much has been made of Barcola’s slow start to life at Anfield, and that’s perhaps to be expected when you cost £123m. Indeed, players who move for such big fees are supposed to hit the ground running, and entering Liverpool’s clash with LASK in Austria, Barcola was still to score or provide an assist for the Reds.
That all changed on Wednesday evening, and in emphatic fashion too.
The France international scored three times in Liverpool’s 6-3 victory, and in the process, Barcola also notched the first hattrick of his professional career.
The reaction from French outlet FootMercato spoke volumes, with Barcola understandably the focal point of their assessment of the contest.
