Four men were arrested by the Selaiyur police for allegedly murdering their co-worker by drowning him in Madambakkam Lake following a dispute over a missing mobile phone. The victim’s body was found on the lake bank on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sathish alias Sakthi, 31, a native of Kodungaiyur. The arrested accused are Gandhi, 47, Arul Kumaran, 36, Gunasekaran, 40, and Balu, 47, all residents of Sithalapakkam near Tambaram. The police said that all five men were employed together in well-digging work in and around Tambaram.
According to the investigation, the group was engaged in installing concrete rings in a well at Madambakkam on Thursday. After completing the work, four of them entered the adjacent lake to bathe, while Sakthi remained on the shore.
