Four days of rain swell drains in Delhi; 18-year-old feared swept away

The national capital received light to moderate rain on Saturday, with Safdarjung weather station recording 98.7 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, the third-highest 24-hour August rainfall since 2011, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. It received another 4.4 mm till 5.30 p.m.
Incessant rainfall over the past four days has also increased the flow of drains and other water channels, resulting in several incidents. In southeast Delhi, an 18-year-old man was swept away in the Priyanka Camp Nala in Madanpur Khadar around 8 p.m. on Friday.
Ankit, a resident of Ali Vihar, was returning home from Noida with his friend Manish when he slipped into the drain and was swept away by the strong flow of water, police said.
