Four arrested for extorting money from youth in Coimbatore

Four individuals have been arrested in Coimbatore for extorting ₹99,000 from a man they lured via a dating app. The suspects allegedly intimidated and assaulted the victim to force a digital payment transfer.

The Vadavalli police in Coimbatore arrested four youth on charge of extorting ₹99,000 from a Coimbatore native, after luring him using a dating app.
The arrested have been identified as K. Kaviyarasan (22) of Kattukudi Pudur near Devakottai, R. Vinoth Kumar (32) of Kosavakottai and R. Mugeshkumar (20) of Devakottai, all from Sivaganga district, and M. Muthukumar (23) of Puliyur in Ramanathapuram district.
The police said that Kaviyarasan and the complainant aged 36 from Kalveerampalayam got acquainted through a dating app. Kaviyarasan allegedly invited him to V.N.R. Nagar near Vadavalli on October 1 afternoon.
The complainant told the police that the three other accused were present at the location. The four men allegedly intimidated and assaulted him. The accused subsequently forced him to unlock his mobile phone and transfer ₹99,000 via a UPI payment app.
