Former Judge reviews progress of ‘Operation Prosopis’

Former Judge of Madras High Court Justice A. Selvam visited a few areas of the district on Wednesday to review the ongoing removal of ‘seemai karuvelam’ (Prosopis juliflora) as mandated by the Madras High Court.

In the first phase, the ‘seemai karuvelam’ that is growing in government lands, rivers, irrigation tanks, channels, government office premises, waterbodies and other public lands is being removed and saplings of native species are being planted there.

As this work is going on in the district, Justice Mr. Selvam visited the irrigation tanks at Karunkulam, Meenakshipatti, Srimoolaikkarai, Alwarthirunagari, Konthankurichi, Umarikottai and Korampallam and Tamirahbarani River at Srivaikundam.
