Former Idukki MLA and senior Congress leader Jose Kuttiyani has passed away at the age of 87. He was a prominent political figure who served as the first president of the Idukki District Congress Committee.

Senior Congress leader and former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani passed away on Monday. He was 87.
Mr. Kuttiyani was elected to the Keralam Legislative Assembly from the Idukki constituency in 1982. Following the creation of Idukki district in 1972, he served as the first president of the District Congress Committee (DCC). He also served as an All India Congress Committee (AICC) member and a Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) executive member. He played a key role in establishing the Idukki District Co-operative Bank.
Due to differences with the party leadership, Mr. Kuttiyani parted ways with the Congress and contested the Idukki parliamentary constituency in 2009 with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) support. He later joined the Trinamool Congress, serving as its Keralam State president for several years, before returning to the Congress in 2022 as an advisor.
