Forest officials arrest two persons for poaching
Forest officials in Tirupattur arrested two individuals, S. Sankar and G. Venu, for poaching wild animals using country-made explosives and guns in Singarapettai Reserve Forest. The duo, identified as tribals, were hunting to supplement their income and have been charged under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

The Forest Department has arrested two persons for poaching wild animals with country-made explosives in Singarapettai Reserve Forest (RF) that comes under Tirupattur forest range on Tuesday.
Forest Department officials said two country-made guns, explosives, nets, torchlights, and batteries were seized from the duo. The arrested persons were identified as S. Sankar, 37, and his accomplice G. Venu, 55. They are tribals from Jawadhu Hills where they are usually engaged in farming activities.
Initial inquiry revealed that it was during a routine patrol by a six-member forest team in the forest that the team found the duo in the forest around 4 a.m with a bag of explosives.
The duo made the country-made explosives and also sourced some of these from neighbouring Kerala through acquaintances, for hunting of small wild animals.
