The Expenditure Finance Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved the construction of a state-of-the-art Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) in Sheikh Sarai at a cost of ₹151.81 crore, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated in a release on Saturday.

Ms. Gupta has set a two-year deadline for the Public Works Department (PWD) to complete the construction.

According to the CMO statement, the new RFSL will come up on a plot measuring around 6,300 square metres, with a total built-up area of 18,300 sq. m. The PWD will construct the building as an integrated forensic facility to meet the specialised need for scientific investigations.

The Chief Minister said the new RFSL would help the Home Department and the Delhi Police fulfil the requirements arising from the new criminal laws.
