For three months no surgery has taken place at Sivaganga GH as urology post remains vacant

Surgeries have been on hold for the last three months at Sivaganga Government Hospital because of a vacant urology post, forcing authorities to redirect patients to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital.

The Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital was established in 2012. However, a urology department has not been established here till date. As a result, difficulties arose in providing treatment for conditions such as kidney stone removal surgeries, urinary tract infection issues, prostate problems in the elderly, and bladder tumors.

Following this, the hospital administration made arrangements for urologists working in other departments to treat kidney patients through deputation.

However, as those doctors were transferred to other towns, a situation arose where treatment could not be provided to kidney patients for two years.

Meanwhile, in January last year, a urologist was transferred to the accident and emergency department. The hospital administration arranged for him to treat kidney patients.
