In the wake of complaints from the public, Food safety officials carried out surprise inspections of several hotels and bakeries in Madikeri, Virajpet, Gonikoppal and Kushalnagar areas of Kodagu during September 2026 .

According to a statement here, three hotels were inspected in Madikeri following public complaints and notices were issued to the establishments, which were also instructed to maintain cleanliness.

In Kushalnagar, a total of 12 food samples were collected for testing and notices were issued to six hotels.

In Gonikoppal and Virajpet, seven bakeries and hotels were inspected and notices were issued. “As many as 20 food samples were collected for testing, including six food samples originating from Kerala,” the statement said.
