Flyers Reportedly Not Considering Coaching Change

Despite a poor start to the 2026-27 NHL season, the Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly not planning to fire head coach John Tortorella. Management is currently seeking alternative ways to improve team performance rather than making a coaching change.
Why it matters
The stability of coaching staff is a major point of interest for sports fans and analysts during periods of team underperformance.
The Philadelphia Flyers’ immense early-season struggles have been one of the more surprising storylines in the NHL in the early portion of 2026-27. Philadelphia enjoyed a stellar 2025-26 season, beating the expectations of nearly every outside observer to not only reach the playoffs, but also defeat its arch-rival Pittsburgh Penguins in a first-round playoff series.
But the momentum the Flyers built last season does not appear to have survived the summer. Philadelphia has begun the year with seven consecutive losses and is second-to-last in league standings, ahead of only the rebuilding Calgary Flames.
