Flu season is peaking later than usual and we don't exactly know why

Link copied Share Share article Spring has sprung but influenza cases are now only reaching their peak in Australia during a longer flu season than usual.

In the two weeks to September 6, the Australian Respiratory Surveillance report recorded more than 31,000 influenza cases, which is a 27.2 per cent increase from the previous period.

According to the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance Dashboard, there have been 171,440 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza this year to date

This year, there have been 2,896 confirmed cases recorded in the ACT, 79,376 in NSW, 1,032 in the NT, 33,466 in Queensland, 7,757 in South Australia, 1,672 in Tasmania, 34,552 in Victoria, and 10,689 in Western Australia.
