The ₹10,000 financial assistance announced for families and commercial establishments affected by the August 1 floods in Pathanamthitta district will be disbursed from September 5, Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar said on Thursday.

The assurance comes amid reports that the promised assistance had not reached any of the flood-affected families in the State weeks after its announcement. Presiding over a Revenue Department review meeting at the Collectorate, the Minister said the government would ensure that the assistance reached the beneficiaries at the earliest.

The amount will be released to families and business establishments for which the assessment of flood-related damage has been completed, the Minister said. The government’s policy was to ensure that relief reached affected people as quickly and transparently as possible, he added.
