Flood alert sounded along Godavari, Sabari riverbanks in Polavaram district
A flood alert has been issued for areas along the Godavari and Sabari rivers due to heavy rainfall in neighboring states. Authorities have established control rooms and closed tourism sites to ensure public safety.
Why it matters
Proactive flood warnings are essential for mitigating loss of life and property in flood-prone riverine regions during monsoon seasons.
People living along the banks of the Godavari and Sabari rivers have been alerted about the heavy inflows into the two rivers in the next 48 hours, due to the continuous rainfall reported in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra.
In an official release, Chintoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Subham Nokwal said that inflows into Sabari and Godavari are expected to rise and the first warning of Godavari flood would likely be issued at Bhadrachalam by Friday evening.
