England have appointed Stephen Fleming as their new men’s Test head coach, with Joe Root being confirmed as Test captain. As per an ECB statement, Fleming was unanimously agreed upon by the selection panel, beating several high-profile candidates to the job. Fleming’s tenure will only begin after England’s Test series against Pakistan. In the interim, Marcus Trescothick will serve as head coach. The former New Zealand captain joins the England setup on the back of his 18-year association with the Super Kings franchise, taking CSK them to five IPL titles as well as two Champions League T20 titles. On the appointment, England’s managing director of cricket, Rob Key, said: “Stephen Fleming is one of the most highly respected figures in cricket, and we are very fortunate that someone of his calibre is willing to take on the challenge of being the England Men's Test Head Coach.
