Five ‘sympathisers’ of banned terror outfit arrested in Thanjavur

The Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) has arrested five suspected ‘sympathisers’ of the banned terrorist organisation, Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT), and is on the lookout for another suspect.
According to sources, the SIU, upon receiving specific intelligence, searched the houses of six suspected HuT sympathisers in Thanjavur town on Tuesday (September 29, 2026) and recovered incriminating documents to establish their alleged association with the banned organisation.
After subsequent inquiries, the SIU effected the arrest of Yaser Abdul and Umar Mukthar of Karambai, Jagir Hussain and Abdul Vagees of S.N.M. Nagar, and Sheikfareed of Rahman Nagar on Wednesday (September 30).
