The police on Tuesday arrested five members of a gang who allegedly hacked to death a 33-year-old man due to previous enmity near Pagalmedu in Tiruvallur district.

The police identified the victim as Marimuthu, a driver from Chittathur, near Vengal. A few days ago, Marimuthu was booked for allegedly threatening a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employee with a knife. He was later granted bail. On Tuesday, Marimuthu was returning home on a motorcycle after signing the register at the Vengal police station as part of his bail conditions. The gang, who came by car, rammed his motorcycle and attacked him with knives.
