Five out of 16 people from Assam caught in the Nepal disaster safe
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that five of the 16 people from Assam reported missing after a flash flood in Nepal have been found safe. Search and rescue efforts continue for the remaining 11 individuals.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Saturday (August 29, 2026) said five out of the 16 people from the State reported missing after the devastating flash flood in Nepal were safe.
Among the 11 still missing are a retired Gauhati University professor, her husband, and a doctor of the Nalbari Medical College and Hospital in western Assam.
“Family members have confirmed that Pankaj Barman and Samar Bezbaruah of Nalbari district’s Arora village, and Shiva Marak, Sarbison Marak, and Elipson Sangma of West Karbi Anglong’s Satgaon area are safe,” an ASDMA spokesperson said.
A third from Arora village, Arun Mahanta, and a fourth from the Satgaon area, Birson Sangma, remained untraced.
