Five members of a family from Chennai were killed when their speeding car collided with several vehicles and rolled over multiple times on the Madurai-Tiruchi highway at Thumbapatti in the early hours of Monday (August 3, 2026).
The police identified the deceased as K. Sriram (34) of Vadikuppam in Chennai, who was driving the car; his brother, Balaji; his mother, Rajamery; his wife, Ranchana; and his 18-month-old daughter, Kiruthiga.
Sriram’s father, V. Kanagaraj (55), who was also in the car, two bike riders, R. Rathinam (40) and C. Murugan (55) of Sivaganga, and the occupant of another car, J. Prakash (50) of Madurai were injured in the accident.
All the injured persons were rushed to the government hospital in Melur.
