Five arrested for blackmailing, assaulting man in Choolaimedu

The Choolaimedu police arrested five people on Saturday (August 8, 2026) for allegedly blackmailing and assaulting a 30-year-old man.
A senior city police official said Sudharsan, a resident of Padmanabha Nagar who works for a pharmaceutical company, had recently married Krishnaveni. He had allegedly contacted a Namitha, who lived near his house, and spoken to her about marrying her.
According to the police, she recorded their conversation and, along with her lawyer friend, Monisha, allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh from Sudharsan to keep the recording secret. The two women allegedly contacted Sudharsan a few days ago and, when he told them that he did not have the money, assaulted him, the police said.
