Why it matters
The incident underscores the inherent dangers faced by the fishing community and the reliance on community-led rescue efforts in maritime regions.
For the second consecutive day, fishermen from Thangachimadam and other areas were on a mission to rescue the missing fisherman Dyon (38) on Friday.
On Wednesday, over 2000 fishers had ventured into the sea in about 400 boats, said Fisheries department officials. On Thursday evening, when the boat belonging to Samuel returned, Dyon was said to be missing. According to Marine Police, the fisherman had fallen in the sea by “mistake” and could not be traced immediately.
