Just few days ago I shared a story that DLSS5 is probably a good candidate for power stress testing, only to receive a report from one of our readers about a melted connector. This case occurred while he was testing DLSS 5 Neural Rendering in NBA 2K27 (so the only official game, mind you). The affected card is an MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC.
The reader, who uses the nickname erek , also documented the incident and shared the details with us. Before the failure, he reported that enabling DLSS 5 increased GPU power consumption from roughly 450W under his previous workload to more than 600W. MSI officially rates the Gaming Trio OC at 575W.
