First flood warning issued as Godavari crosses 43-ft mark at Bhadrachalam

Authorities have issued a first flood warning for the Godavari river at Bhadrachalam after water levels crossed the 43-foot mark. Flood control rooms have been activated to monitor the situation as upstream projects release excess water.
Why it matters
Timely flood warnings are critical for disaster management and protecting lives and property in low-lying areas during the monsoon season.
Aided by heavy inflows from its catchment areas, the Godavari crossed the first flood warning level of 43 feet mark at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana at 10.14 a.m. on Friday (July 31, 2026).
The authorities issued the first warning as per the flood manual and activated a 24x7 flood control room at the Integrated District Offices Complex in Kothagudem.
The control room can be reached at 08744 241950, while people can contact the authorities on Whatsapp at 9392919743 for flood-related information, officials said.
People living in river-side villages and low-lying areas along the banks of the Godavari were alerted in view of the possibility of a further rise in the river level following the release of floodwaters from upstream projects.
