First couple eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing

Chris Appleton and Amy Dowden have become the first couple eliminated from the current series of Strictly Come Dancing. The pair faced a dance-off against Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu after receiving low scores from judges and the public.
Why it matters
Strictly Come Dancing is a high-profile television program in the UK, and its results are a significant topic of public interest and media coverage.
Celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton and his professional dance partner Amy Dowden have become the first couple eliminated from the new series of Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One.
Their dances from the first two weeks of the show failed to impress the judges, who then sent them home.
The pair left the competition following a Movie Week dance-off against actress Jaime Winstone and her professional dance partner, Carlos Gu.
The judges' scores were added to those from the first live show, when there was no public vote.
They were then combined with the results of Saturday night's public vote to decide the two lowest-scoring couples who would face the dance-off.
Both couples performed their routines again, with Appleton and Dowden doing a Cha Cha to I'll Be Ready from Baywatch before Winstone and Gu did the same dance but to Oh, Pretty Woman from Pretty Woman .
