Why it matters
This reflects the growing adoption of digital assets in emerging markets as a practical solution for remittances and financial inclusion.
Shawn Exchange has launched ShawnX, a new cryptocurrency and digital payments application designed to simplify access to digital financial services for Nigerians and position the company to expand cross- border payment solutions across Africa. The fintech firm said the application, now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, combines cryptocurrency trading, digital payments, and value-added services into a single platform as demand for digital financial services continues to grow across the continent. The launch came at a time when Nigeria remains one of Africa’s largest cryptocurrency markets despite evolving regulatory oversight, with increasing numbers of individuals and businesses turning to digital assets for payments, remittances and investment. The ShawnX App enables users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies using the naira, convert fiat currency into digital assets, exchange gift cards for cash, and purchase airtime and mobile data through one interface.
