Find the flattest route between any two points in SF

A new web-based tool allows users to calculate the flattest walking or biking routes across San Francisco using lidar elevation data and OpenStreetMap. The tool enables users to balance the trade-off between the shortest distance and the least amount of climbing.
Why it matters
This demonstrates the practical application of open-source geospatial data and elevation modeling for urban navigation.
Flatten SF flat routes across San Francisco
Routes are computed in your browser over 160,000 street
segments, using USGS 1 m lidar elevation and the Overture /
OpenStreetMap street graph. The slider runs along the whole trade-off
between distance and climbing: every route that nothing else beats on
both counts, from the shortest path to the flattest one worth walking
