Deivendran, 40, son of Ammasi of Anaiyur in Madurai, was allegedly found dead in a village tank at Poondi near Alagarkoil on Thursday.
Police probe revealed that Deivendran, who was employed in a private finance firm, had reportedly misappropriated the gold jewels pledged by customers.
After the finance firm lodged a complaint against Deivendran, he was apprehending trouble from the police. Under such circumstances, he was found dead in the waterbody.
The police inspected the scene of the crime and suspected that the victim may have died by suicide. They seized the body and sent it to the Government Hospital for a post-mortem. Further investigation was on.
