FIFA sends message to Nigeria ahead of 2030 World Cup qualifiers

FIFA has issued a statement regarding Nigeria's potential to qualify for the 2030 World Cup, emphasizing that administrative and technical stability is more critical than raw talent. Despite recent qualification setbacks, the governing body maintains that Nigeria remains a promising football nation.
Why it matters

Layer 1 FIFA believes Nigeria has all the ingredients needed to qualify for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, but says one crucial factor will determine whether the Super Eagles end their recent absence from football’s biggest stage.
In its review of Nigeria’s prospects, the world football governing body acknowledged the country’s rich pool of talent but argued that success in the next qualification campaign will depend more on stability than ability.
“The Super Eagles have soared into the last 16 at half of the six World Cup tournaments that they have contested, namely in 1994, 1998 and 2014, but have been absent from the last two editions,” FIFA said.
Nigeria’s hopes of featuring at the 2026 World Cup ended in disappointment after Eric Chelle’s side fell at the final hurdle of the qualification process.
