NEW DELHI: The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has announced Geneva, Switzerland, as the host city for the 2026 FIDE World Championship Match, where reigning champion Gukesh Dommaraju will defend his crown against Uzbek challenger Javokhir Sindarov in what promises to be a historic showdown.The World Championship match will be held from November 25 to December 15, with both Gukesh and Sindarov set to be 20 years old when the contest begins, making it the youngest World Championship match in chess history.Geneva chosen as neutral venue for historic showdownAnnouncing the venue, FIDE interim president Viswanathan Anand said several countries had shown strong interest in staging the prestigious event before the governing body opted for a neutral venue."Several countries expressed a strong interest in hosting the FIDE World Championship Match, including India, the United States and Cyprus.
