Female elephant found dead
A 36-year-old female elephant was found dead in the Cumbum reserve forest area of Theni district. A post-mortem examination suggests the animal died following a physical altercation with another elephant.

A female elephant was found dead with injuries near Thannipaarai in Cumbum reserve forest area in Theni district on Saturday.
Following information from a surveillance team, the Forest Ranger and other staff went to the spot. A team of doctors, including veterinary expert Muthuramalingam, performed post-mortem at the spot. The report suggested that the injuries on the body could have been the result of a fight with another elephant. The age of the dead elephant was estimated to be 36 years.
