Federation President encourages women to occupy central role in building peace
The Ethiopian Women’s Federation and the International Women’s Peace Group held a forum to advocate for the increased participation of women in peacebuilding and national development. The initiative aims to integrate international cooperation with existing local peace programs.

Women must occupy a central role in building lasting peace and shaping the country’s future, stressed Ayelech Eshetie, President of the Ethiopian Women’s Federation, during a joint peace forum in the capital.
The event, co-organized by the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and the Ethiopian Women’s Federation, gathered women leaders from civic organizations, academic institutions, and government bodies—including the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.
Ayelech highlighted the historical role of women in preserving families, resolving conflicts, and nurturing communities.
She asserted that sustainable peace requires the full participation of women in leadership, decision-making, mediation, and national development.
“When building strong partnerships, we can develop practical solutions to the challenges facing our communities,” Ayelech said.
