Federal Labor MP Luke Gosling has been charged with two counts of assault in relation to an incident involving NT Administrator David Connolly at a festival earlier this month.
In a statement to the media, Mr Gosling's lawyer said his client denies the charges and there is a "real concern" about "politicisation".
According to the NT Criminal Code, anyone found guilty of an assault on the NT administrator while "he is engaged in the discharge of his official functions" could be imprisoned for up to 14 years.

The administrator's office has alleged the incident occurred during the NT Thailand Grand Festival, a community event held in Darwin on July 18.
Police began investigating the matter last week and arrested the 54-year-old Labor MP this morning at his home.
