Faulty drains leave parts of Tiruchi waterlogged after heavy rain

The recent wet spell has again exposed the shortcomings of the stormwater drains in several parts of the city.
The city witnessed a heavy thunderstorm on Sunday night, with rainfall lasting for more than an hour in several areas. Tiruchi Junction recorded the highest rainfall of 87.6 mm, while Golden Rock received 49.8 mm during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday.
Water stagnation on roads and residential streets caused inconvenience to road users. Several low-lying areas were affected by waterlogging as rainwater failed to drain quickly through the stormwater drains. Major roads around Central Bus Stand, Tiruchi Railway Junction, and Melapudur Subway were also affected.
The situation raised concerns over the condition and maintenance of stormwater drains across the city.
