Farmers were arrested by the police when they prevented the work on IDPL (Irugur to Devanagonthi Pipeline) project at Poosaripalayam in Kandiankovil panchayat, on Saturday (August 29, 2026), demanding higher compensation.

Twenty four farmers - 12 men and 12 women - were arrested and detained in a community hall along the Palladam-Dharapuram Road, where they have been in a hunger fast till late night.

The farmers said they have decided to continue their protest at the venue, and that they will not move out even with the issuance of a release order.

After their arrest, the work was carried out under police protection.

The farmers, sources said, have decided to sustain their protest at the work site every day.

The proposed pipeline is planned through a private land to a stretch of 74 km in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts, along an existing Right of Use alignment.
