Farm labourers stage demo in Tiruchi in support of their demands

Farm laborers in Tiruchi held a demonstration demanding higher daily wages and the restoration of the MGNREGA program. Simultaneously, farmers protested against the proposed Mekedatu reservoir project, fearing it will negatively impact water access in Tamil Nadu.
Why it matters
These protests reflect ongoing tensions regarding agricultural labor rights and inter-state water resource management in India.
A section of members of the Tiruchi district unit of the Tamizh Maanila Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party of India, staged a demonstration near the old Collectorate here on Tuesday in support of their demands. The Sangam members demanded that ₹700 be paid as daily wages to the agricultural labourers.
The report covers multiple protest groups neutrally, presenting their demands and grievances without taking a side.
